And a PS. I've just started the new novel and need a name for a dog. A young collie-cross. Any ideas? Oh, as aptly pointed out by MissU, it depends who owns the dog. It's the older, sprightly lady who is in her late 60s/early 70s. I thought of calling the dog Fred, after Fred Astaire, but think he needs to be a bit more imaginative than that. She is an ex-dancer, so - no, he can't be called Rudolph...

ReplyDeleteAs for the dog's name, I think it'll be hard for us to choose because it's dependent on who owns the dog. The name Winston, for example, says something comletely differnt about the owner than the name Schnookums.
I loved 'A Spot of Bother' and will have a look at some of the others.

I love that picture. When we had dogs and cats, I found the cats really ruled the dogs indoors. But as soon as they got outside the dogs would chase them up trees. Some territorial thing I never understood. Lovely blog. I followed you from Bev's
ReplyDeleteHeck Flowerpot! I'll have to had a jolly good think about this one. The only books I tend to read are the TV times and a dictionary. I'll have a good rummage around my book shelves (not to mention the Argos bag on top of my wardrobe) and see what I can come up with.

ReplyDeleteWe had a collie called that when I was a kid - it was named after one of the characters on a tv Western, I think.

jj - I think reading is such a personal thing, but hope you enjoy some of what I suggested.
frances - glad to meet you and please call this way again. Our cat definitely rules the roost here though he's had a nasty fight recently and is much quieter these days.
ReplyDeleteCrystal - will be interested to see your choice as and when! I loved Rachel's Holiday by Marian K but after that I'm afraid I went off her. Rachel's H was good and gritty albeit laced well with humour, whereas I found her subsequent books didn't grab me at all.

ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is for the dog is Banjo - it's a good one to call.
My suggestion for a dog for an ex-dancer of older years would be 'ouch' as it would probably be gazing at you constantly every time you moved.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what kind of dancing? classical, tap or what?? I rather like the idea of: Bojangles, Fosse (Bob) or Swayze or (my favourite)Cagney after James Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy - grreat.. not many people know he danced very well for a man with short legs!

ReplyDeleteWe used to have a border-collie cross called Max. Not sure if that name is any good for your novel but I can't read "border-collie cross" without his name popping into my mind!
