Big Trouble

We're talking trouble here. As in, marriage in trouble.
Himself is in love. Again.
The recent object of his affections is not me, not Mollie – but a woman in Gweek. She is 25 foot long, she's called Golf Kilo. And she lives in the boatyard.

To be fair, Himself has always loved boats first, way before we met, but he had to sell his last darling about six years ago. Since then he has tried to distract himself with music (another love), making model aeroplanes, and countless other projects. He even decided he was going to write a novel (no comment there) – but at the heart of it all is a man in love with the sea. It really is in his blood.

Last week while I was walking Molls I watched a boat go out to sea, thinking, “Pip should be doing that, instead of sitting at home prowling the internet looking at boats”.

Well, the next day we had a phone call from a company interested in buying his engraving machine. They rang back on Saturday to reinforce this offer, and to talk about Payment and Delivery.

If they buy this machine, it would pay for most of Golf Kilo. So you see why this is so important.

It's now Wednesday and we're still awaiting the email so that he can send an invoice in order that they can send a cheque. I've told him On No Account is he to take the machine up there until they've paid up.

And that's the other thing. In order to get a bit more money, he's going to drive the machine all the way up to Sheffield, and sleep in the van overnight. He's nearly 70, has bad lungs, feels the cold terribly because of his cancer medication, and hasn't been feeling well for about a month now. But he refuses to go and stay in a B&B. I've offered to pay for it, I've threatened divorce, but he is Adamant. So what can a girl do?

Oh, and the other thing. He let slip that he's actually made an offer on the boat already.......

But he has a purpose again. He's a Man with a Mission. He has a smile on his face.

And he's in love.

Gasp! Here we go again. But NO SLEEPING IN THE VAN, Your Big Sister says so.

Perhaps you could go with him, make a special outing of it, look on the internet and find a nice B&B somewhere not that far away from where he's going, or midway.... could be a lovely romantic evening? But NOT in the van....

No! No! Nooooooooo! Lord, this is going to be Tom, I just know it! The boat's only been gone two minutes and he's trawling the internet looking for a 'little fishing boat' (pulling out clumps of own hair). What can you do with them???

Shelagh - you might as well save your breath. But I will tell him!

No sleeping in vans in bloomin' January! I would do it at my age!

But you know... I know they're impossible but it's so important for them to have a mission, a love. It's important for all of us.

PFG - It's a great idea except that I get awful back ache driving so we'd have to stop every hour which would make the drive much longer and we'd both get in a bad mood!

Chris - I knew you'd understand! I hate to say it but I think you'd better prepare yourself for The Next Boat. They just can't help it can they?!

JJ - you're so right. That's why I'm giving a Big sigh and saving my breath. Nothing I say will make a difference...

Rob would love another boat - sold his last one before we met - and is forever googling them.

They never do listen to us, do they? I do hope he doesn't sleep in the van though, it's far too cold for that.

Debs - must be something in the blood. Unfortunately he's insisting on sleeping in the van - and of course he's bound to get pneumonia or something - literally. Grrrrr.....

I suppose, really, it's a very good thing when our 'Himselves' have a project. But I understand only too well the angst it can cause when the project takes them to the ends of the earth.

Yes indeed! But only if it's a gin palace. Actually I think I'd prefer a narrow boat. But thanks for thinking of me.

Seriously though, my heart goes out to you, FP. He's an adult and makes his own choices. Sincerely hope all goes well xx

Uh-oh. My brother is one of those. The tales I could tell of his love affairs with boats...

My sister-in-law lets him have his way with them. It keeps him happy, and when he's happy, everyone's happy. :)

In my experience when "they" are on a mission the best thing to do is keep your head down and ket them get on with it. The fact that he's near;y 70 doesn't come into it because if he's anything like mine he's still only eight in his head. Boys nevr grow up - especially when there's a toy involved. Hope all turns out well.

He's making the most of it isn't he! There's lots of Premier Inns about the country, he sounds very much like my hubster, trying to save a few bob!

Liane - well we might need to win the lottery to nkeep him happy but yes I agree in theory!

Colette - you're so right. They don't grow up do they?! (Thank God.)

CJ - I can't ever imagine Himself in a Premier Inn. Camping in the car park yes but not inside one!

Well he may of gone to Sheffield by the time you read this. I have been away on holiday with Tilly and we have only now returned.
I can see you have a problem with this old sailor. He wont lie down and he can't hardly stand up. What a to do.
Could you say you have won some money on the ponies.
If only he could make it over the warmth and sunshine we get over here. He could sail to his hearts content and remain warm.
Hope all going ok in Cornwall. Had a couple of inlaws down your way just before xmas and they came back calling us 'My Handsome and My Lover. Very saucy
Woof to Molls

Grump - hope yu had a good holiday. I agree, sailing in your waters sounds much nicer than the cold briny over here but dont think there's much chance of us emigrating! Your comment really made me laugh - thanks for brightening my day! Take care and woof to Tilly from Molls xx
