Three Good Things

I went over to Lady Thinker’s blog this morning and read about her three good things which instantly made me feel better. (It’s a grey old damp morning here in Cornwall.) So I thought I’d note down the first three good things I could think of.

1. My friends. We went out last night but because of these vile drugs I’m on, I felt so weepy I had to come home without seeing the film that I’d been looking forward to seeing for weeks. (Atonement – anyone seen it?) My friends were wonderful – hugged me, kissed me, offered to walk me home and miss the film themselves. I said no, of course, but you can’t get better friends than that.

I'm adding a PS here having spoken to Nik, one of the friends who DID see Atonement last night. Apparently the female lead has been dubbed IKEA Knightly. This cheered me greatly. But then I can be such a bitch.

2. My knickers. Today I’m wearing black and white polka dots, cotton and new. My spirits lift every time I think of them. They are fun and frivolous, and there will be more on these in another post.

3. The sea. Yesterday I took Mollie for a very slow walk (everything’s slowed down at the moment). There’s something so special about the slanting light of October, and we sat on the cliff top among the brackish smell of bracken and counted five yachts and three tankers in the bay. The sea was dark blue and turquoise, the waves crashing and thundering on the rocks below. When we got down to the beach, I could smell the ozone freshness, taste the salt on my lips. All around me was a wonderful sense of space, a stillness in the rawness of nature that made me feel whole again.

What are your three good things?

black and white knickers! i love it. what an unexpected thing. i can't top that.

i'd say offhand...

1) our park. i need greenspace, and trees, and nature. i walk in the park every single day. sometimes more than once a day.

2) the dogs. of course. they make me laugh when i'm grumpy and they make me feel loved always.

3) my health. i do not take this for granted.

my knickers are totally ordinary..

Flower - you may have been feeling even lower by now if you had seen 'Atonement' - I have yet to hear a good word about it from anyone other than professional reviewers.
My underwear doesn't even bear a mention ... think along the lines of Bridget's Johns! ;-)
It grey damp and gloomy and chilly here too.

laurie - I'm glad you appreciate black and white knickers. And of course my dog Mollie always makes me feel loved.

lady thinker - I've just spoken to one of the friends who did see Atonement last night and you're quite right. She said just as well I didnt go. I will get it out on DVD when it comes out and see it in bite size chunks. Possibly.

I agree that black and white knickers are impossible to beat, but here goes -
1. All of my children are well and at school. The sound you hear is me screaming.

2.My entire body is sore like it was run over by a truck, so I have to assume that the gym yesterday did something productive.

3. Your description of the ocean made my day. I feel like I could be there myself. Thank You.

correspondent - it sounds like you are still having a rough time. Big hugs from over the ocean. I send you another personal blast of Cornish air.

Send that blast of sea air Sufolk way please flowerpot. Sometimes the north sea just doesn't do it. It's brown and dull, just like today.

Black & white knick knocks? Love 'em:)
X

Thanks Ak - living by the sea is the most wonderful comfort and inspiration. How I lived in London all those years is beyond me now! And I'm feeling much better than yesterday thanks.

1. My new blogpals.
2. My new puppy.
3. My old friends, my children, and my husband

Thanks for that. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't know what knickers you were wearing today. For you information, I'm in a lime green thong with a purple trim. It also has my name stitched across the pouch which is made from a synthetic fur.

If my daughter and my husband and my grandchild are doing well, then I am doing well, so I suppose those are my three things.

My other three things are, coffee, cigarettes and my dog. Not necessarily in that order. It depends on the time of day.

I think the first would have to be this wonderful farm. Living in a big old farm house with 330 acres surrounding me is simply Heaven! Watching Amy play happily, knowing she truly belongs to this lifestyle all adds to the greatness of this rugged landscape.

Knowing that I have a beautiful daughter who loves me and needs me more than anyone else ever could.

Going away next week for a five day break in the heart of Scotland. Can't wait!
