Pushing Them On

We have a problem. It is self induced, but nevertheless disturbing our sleep. It concerns Buster, who is a bully. He is also spoilt (NOT by me) and very greedy. Guess who's the culprit?

The problem is that for some time now he has decided his breakfast time is any time from 5.30am – well, when it pleases him really. Matters are not helped by the fact that yesterday Himself decided to give them their tea at 2pm. Even by my maths, that is a long time until breakfast. But I digress.

When he decides it's time for grub, Bussie jumps on the bed, strides past me, purring purposefully, and waits to see if he gets a reaction. He doesn't, usually, or not a favourable one, so he then stomps over to Himself, and circles the pillow like a looming hangover.

Himself grunts, and turns over. Grunts some more and Bussie waits, with an imperturbable expression. He then crouches by Himself and prods his nose with a paw. If this still doesn't get the desired result, he extends a claw, and rakes the end of Himself's nose.

By now Mollie has woken up and is squeaking with excitement at the idea of BREAKFAST, egging Bussie on.

By this time one of us has usually given in, and stumbled out of bed to go to the kitchen.

Some time ago we decided this was ridiculous and we had to Push Them On, as Himself says. Somehow it all slipped back, so on Saturday I decided Enough was Enough. So we've had three mornings of lying there, crouching under the duvet while Bussie stanks up and down the bed. (Stanking is a Cornish expression. Quite descriptive I think.)

So far we haven't given in, and I am determined not to. Whether Himself will last the course is another matter.

Lol. Your description of Bussie's behaviour makes me giggle. I hope you manage to stick to the plan.

OMG, that's as bad as babies, except Buster isn't likely to mature beyond it!

Can you shut him out of the bedroom?

RT - well you know what he's like!

JJ - shut him out of the bedroom? My God, we';d never hear the end of it. He'd break the door down!!!

That took me back to when we had two cats, Flowerpot. Ours used to nibble noses as well as the prodding and the pulled the pillows as well.

The hour goes forward soon. Shh! Don't tell Buster and Mollie that 5-30am will be 6-30am.

Pat - I'd forgotten about the hour going forward. Unfortunately it's something to do with it getting light so I don't know that it will work in our favour!

Our cat can be quite talkative and jumps on the bed and walks up and down until she gets our attention. Our solution was to shut her out of the bedroom! She now waits patiently on the other side of the door until WE decide to get up.

Sophie has come up with a New Plan: purring loudly and wetly in my ear around 4 am (which is my usual time for arising, fortunately). much love, SIL.

oh dear. I shouldn't smile but your description made me:-)

My cat has a 'late supper' before he retires. Spoilt? Naaah:-)

Rosiero - your cat is evidently much better mannered than Bussie!

Ak - I certainly intend to!

Susan - thanks for that. Blessings to you too.

Shelagh - good for Sophie! In fct Bussie was quite well mannered - for him - this morning. Progress? I doubt it!

Men are hopeless at enforcing this kind of thing in pets. My hubby included. We had our dog for five years, trained all the kids not to feed titbits at the table, now suddenly who's doing it....yep...HIM.

oh....you are a funny person and so do your Bussie do...great to have a cat even though they behave naughty..
cheers!!!

"...circles the pillow like a looming hangover." Love that simile.

I'd definitely shut them out. Mess with anything, but not with my sleep!

Reasons - my husband is EXACTLY the same. We had a blow up this morning becasue of him feeding the dog at the table. Grrrr......!

Susan - there are times when It would be lovely not to have a cat. NO I'M JOKING!!!

Wordtryst - well he used to sleep on the bed you see so we couldnt shut him out really. Also if we shut him out we shut Mollie in and if she needs to go out int he night she can't. Very complicated!

Yes, good plan.
