Great White Sharks
This isn't a picture of where we were yesterday because the pics are still on the camera, but it's a favourite beach of mine on the Helford.
As I write I am sitting out looking at a massive white shark. It's true - Great White Sharks are alive in Cornwall - I have proof. This one is 22 foot long and lies on the terrace of our upstairs tenants, with the the remains of a person hanging out of its mouth.
It's been lovingly constructed, over the past few days, out of plastic hoops, pond lining and cardboard for the carnival which is tonight, to mark the start of Falmouth Week. This afternoon it will be carried down to the Star and Garter (for it's a thirsty shark) before making its way to Kimberley Park for the carnival parade. As we are both utterly shattered, I think we'll have to have a rest before such excitement.
When I've uncovered the camera (which is lurking somewhere, underneath barbecue Stuff), I will take a picture. Sharky's called Eric, by the way.

Hello FP. A lovely photograph!
Those pesky great white sharks get everywhere, don't they? I have to say I was rather impressed with this new neighbour of ours...it's a shame we will be missing the carnival this year, so we won't see it in action, so to speak.
RT
Eric the Shark. It has a nice ring to it. The mental picture of the thirsty shark lifting a nice cold one at the pub is cracking me up.
Love the photo. Just beautiful.
RT, yes I quite agree. Eric was getting to be part of the furniture. Sorry you won't be able to make the carnival though I dont think we'll stay long. Just long enough to see Eric!
correspondent - yes, I think Eric is just the right name for a shark, particularly a Great White. Apparently another one has been 'spotted' at Polperro recently. Well, possibly...
What does Eric drink in the Star and Garter? Whatever it is, I bet he drinks alone! Have a great carnival night.
Love the photo!
Hope the carnival was fun and Eric enjoyed the attention!
Ooh..thanks for the award as well. x
I've been reading and hearing about the real great whites in Cornwall - that's scary. I imagine Eric is a lot friendlier!
table - he drinks Betty Stoggs in the Star, and likes the odd slurp from people's legs, given the state of the people carrying him last night.
MissU - the carnival was great - fabulous atmosphere and all the better for being on foot rather than on lorries as it used to be. Some great costumes!
Ak - Eric is a lot friendlier, but also - er - inactive, which might account for his friendliness....
Thanks for your kind comments over at my blog. I hope the sun shone on your barbeque!
graham, prince and tilly - yes, by some miracle the sun did actually shine, not only for picnic but barbecue as well. Now, of course we're paying for it, but the important thing is that the Birthday boy had a good time. Thanks for visiting and please call by again!
