This is one of my neices, Sofe, on the Mall last Friday with - look who's behind her....
Well as a romantic and one who was married to one, I have to talk about The Wedding. I have to say I loved every minute of it, helped by the fact that I was with friends of a similar ilk. My dear brother in law came to fix my hoover that morning and we were having a coffee when Lyn rang. "Come on Flowerpot," she said, at 10.30. "I need you to get in the mood."
So I went over there, was handed a glass of pink fizz and a Union Jack stetson hat and we sat and scrutinised the dresses, the hats, the celebrities and Who Knew The Words to the hymns. And of course The Dress - or in this case, both sisters' dresses.
Lyn provided smoked salmon and cream cheese sarnies, then strawberries and cream and we wept through all the weepy bits and cheered at The Kiss(es) and I got a text from my little brother who was on the Mall, taking pictures and terribly excited. (See above picture of Sofe)
Later that day, I walked down to meet friends in the pub and the air was warm and a salt breeze blew on my face as I walked into town. Around me people laughed and joked, sat on pavements with their beers and glasses of wine. Everyone smiled. We were a nation united by pageantry, but a realisation that this is what we Do Best. What other nation could have put on such a spectacular show?
But most of all, we were a nation united by love.

Wa-hey. The Ginger Winger (only kidding - rather like his radio broadcast. Mind you, I did have Diane Abbot canvassing on my front doorstep this weekend. So there - (puts tongue out).
I didnt hear his broadcast, Lizzie but Sofe was dead chuffed to be so near him!
I'm glad you had such a wonderful day. I loved every minute of the wedding and toasted them with pink champagne, any excuse.
I wasn't even going to watch The Wedding, I went out to pick up my new car and when I came back my son was watching. So I got sucked in, somehow, to doing all the same things as you reported (Hats, Dresses, was Sam Cam correct in not wearing a hat, who was who etc). Great fun ensued, although why all three of my daughters weren't interested I have no idea! Just me, a seventeen year old lad and lots of lemonade...
Many congratulations to your niece for getting so close to Mr Evans.
I promised myself I'd stay at the desk and write but I had a quick peep at The Dress and was hooked for hours. I loved the sister's dress. Preferred it to the bride's.
I agree that no other nation could do it better - or as well!

Shirley - it was difficult not to be hooked. I even watched the re-run later!

I loved every single minute of The Wedding but the best bit by far for me was when they drove down the mall in the sports car! Wonderful. :)
Ak - I loved the fly pass too - was thinking of Pip as he loved spitfires!

I went off to Mother in laws caravan for a couple of days alone, simply so I could watch the day in peace.
And what a wonderful day it was. In every way. I also had smoked salmon sandwiches, and also strawberries and a glass of wine.
I agree with all your sentiments. It was a day when I felt the whole nation united. And it made me feel proud to be British.

It was a good day, wasn't it? I watched on telly and I couldn't help shedding a tear (okay, a few tears...).
Talli - tears are mandatory on these occasions!
We were travelling, but managed to see most of it on the boat. We docked just as they were going up to Buckingham Palace so we missed the kiss and the Aston Martin. Plenty of re-runs though. I thought it was beautiful. Kate was lovely, the dress was stunning and William just looked chuffed to bits. Everyone fancies Pippa though now!
Warned hubby I might shed a tear, and I did. Proud to be British - we do that kind of pomp and ceremony so well, even when it is a little more relaxed than in the past.
MLB - glad you got the end of it though as you say the re-runs went on. I think it was all the better for being slightly more informal.
I watched it with my daughters and their partners and even Tom, who printed, 'I'm A Republican' posters enjoyed it. I enjoyed reading about your day.
Chris - glad Tom enjoyed it too. I thought it was fabulous!
