Surprises

Above picture taken on Sunday during an eventful walk at Carn Brae. Yes we got lost. No surprise there. But at least I wasn't map reading.

And on to other matters. Yesterday I got the following email:-

Dear Sue,

I am delighted to tell you that you have made the top 20 list of Novelicious Undiscovered 2012. The full list can be found at
http://www.novelicious.com/2012/04/novelicious-undiscovered-the-top-20.html

We will be showcasing each of the entries through out May ready for the public vote at the start of June. You are more than welcome to tweet, facebook and encourage people to vote for you, but we will not accept repeat voting and will have a system in place to prevent this.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions, and WELL DONE!

WELL! As one of my best mates is about to depart for a while, this is good news indeed. So please have a look and vote for FOUR LEFT FEET by Sue Jackson.

I’m also hoping to go on a trip to Scilly – I’ve just written a piece on the Scillonian’s 35th anniversary so have a trip for 2 (well, 3 with Moll) so we’re hoping to head off end of this week. Though given the forecast, this could be a bumpy ride!

And nearer to home, Mum is going to be in a nursing home for a while but has started reading again which is good news. Given her state of mind, she wants cheerful books to read. I’ve ordered some Mary Wesley which she’s read already but always stand re-reading. Anyone got any ideas for other uplifting but interesting novels?

Wow, Sue! Congratulations on the competition news; that's fantastic!

I've memories of the Scillonian on a good day that were bad enough!

Good to hear better news about your mum too. 'In Her Element' (Honno,2008) perhaps? A lovely uplifting anthology of women writing about the landscape.

What fabulous news, Sue! Well done. I will, of course, vote for you and will put the word around! Hope you'll put it on Network Cornwall too, as others do.
Have a lovely time in the Scillies- hope the crossing is okay and I'll look forward to seeing you again next Thursday. Glad your Mum is reading again. Mary Wesley is good. What about Joanna Trollope or Kate Atkinson?
Much love

Debs posted a link yesterday on FB which I clicked... And I thought, 'well now, is that OUR Sue Jackson?'

Yay, Sue! How did I miss seeing your name on the list! Congrats!

JJ - yes that's me! Many thanks x

Talli - Jackson is not a very memorable name I fear! Thanks though.

Many, many congratulations, Sue, it's wonderful (as is the pic!). What about some Wooster and Jeeves for your mum - laugh out loud stuff, I know it's not really 'women's fiction', but it might give her a grin or two... Wonderful that she's reading again.

Flowerpot said...

Thanks, Jane - yes I love the pic too! Jeeves and Wooster is a great idea, will put that on the list.

Cara Cooper - Many congratulations Sue! As far as your ma is concerned why not go for Alexander McCall Smith's ladies detective agency. Quietly funny and beautifully written. Or, and I know they were written for children but they have a wry adult humour which I love - the William books by Richmal Crompton. Lovely stuff. Finally, 'Enchanted April' for an uplifting read.

Cara - I had to copy your comment as it wouldn't appear otherwise, most strange. Many thanks for ideas - will add them to the list too!
