Slumdogs and happy endings

Again I have been so touched by all your kind comments. I am slowly improving!

I went to see Slumdog Millionaire just after having tooth removed, which probably wasn't very good timing, but i was keen to see the film and it was the last opportunity in Falmouth. If anyone hasn't seen it - well. I really didnt think I would survive the first hour. The scenes of the slums are horrific. Brilliantly shot. Nightmare enducing.

Slumdog took on a different meaning as the poison from the infection seeped into my mouth, not helped by feeling as if my jaw had had an argument with a particularly aggressive crowbar.

The next day, visions of the slums still shot through my head, and my face was blown up like a hamster on the offending side. But infections apart, the film is horrifying but brilliant. Don't go unless you're feeling strong. (And I wanted to know what happened to him - and her - once he'd got the money. But there you go.)

On a completely different topic, I had a phone call from a dear friend this morning who has been unlucky - or perhaps lucky - in love many times. She's been on her own since her last marriage broke up several years ago, though her family are always around and she has many friends and admirers.

Recently, she met someone and they have been meeting. Talking. Going to films. Sharing meals. Taking it slowly. When her marriage broke up, she despaired, thinking she would never find anyone to love again.

But - "I looked in the mirror this morning and I had a big grin," she said. "I thought - perhaps I have a boyfriend!"

So this is for anyone out there feeling unloved and unwanted.
Love can happen in the most unexpected of places.
And often, it does.

You sound as if you're having a dreadful time with that ghastly infection, I do hope it sorts itself out soon.

I think I'll wait until the film comes out on DVD, it sounds rather grim, especially the slum scenes you mentioned.

I'm going to see Slumdog Millionaire tomorrow, hopefully. I'm a bit under the weather too. Perhaps it'll take my mind off my misery.

I keep hearing mentionings of Slumdog and am hoping to see it before it finishes at the pictures. I live so far away from the cinema that it's quite difficult to go.

Hope the tooth sorts itself out, I'm going to the dentist next week and I hate it.

Slumdog's not out here yet ... but I definitely want to see it. I made the mistake of going to see Revolutionary Road the other day because I was feeling low! It was a good film but I was even more depressed afterwards.

I'm sorry about your tooth problems - they sound dreadful.

Debs - well it was grim but it's worth seeing.

Waleup - let me know what you think of it.

Crystal - despite what I said, it is very good and worth seeing. Good luck at the dentist.

JJ - Thanks for the warning of Rev Road. That was next onmy list but perhaps not just yet!

I loved slumdog - brilliant story, brilliant direction and brilliant acting. Ultimately a story so uplifting that I'd go to see it again. The slums are awful but are places of immense loyalty as neighbourhoods work together for the good of each other. So much poverty in our world, so much money wasted on rubbish like the space programme when people are starving.

Hope the swelling has gone down and the painkillers keep working.

Chris - OH NO!! Best of luck.

Ive yet to see Slumdog, but I did read that 2 of the little lads that had cameo parts and got a one off payment of 500 quid and 1000 quid were to be flown over for the premiere, but the family asked if they could have the money it would of cost for the flight cos it was 4 times what the family earnt in one year....... I also read that the film company etc are making sure funds are available to put the two boys through schools....

Hope ya hamster faces gets better soon.....

MOB - well you can tell the state of mind I was in when I saw Slumdog! Though I agree with everything you say. It provides a lot of food for thought.

Lane - tooth feeling much better thanks and yes, doesnt a good ending make us all feel better?

marmie - that;'s interesting and I hope it's true about putting the boys through school. 500 quid doesnt sound much money in the movie world...

I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth. Do take care because that is how my son got osteomyelitis in his jaw. I don't want to scare you, but please make sure you are being well looked after.

I so enjoyed SM, it is a great film based on an inspirational storyline.

ellee - never heard of that but it sounds terrifying. Glad to say the tooth is healing very well so i dont think it's anything to worry about but I have told dentist about my dire reactions! Thanks for that.
